First Up, Why Honeymoon in Tulum?

Tulum Honeymoon

Breathtaking views – check. Peace and tranquility – check. Fine dining nearby – check.

When it comes to the dream honeymoon checklist, Tulum puts a big fat tick in all of the boxes.

Take one look at a photograph of Tulum’s white-sand beaches and Mayan ruins and you’ll instantly see why it’s the ideal honeymoon destination.

In fact, an increasing number of couples are saying ‘I Do’ and then jetting off to this tropical paradise for a week or two of pampering spa treatments, jungle exploration, and beach-dwelling.

Tulum Honeymoond

From intimate hotels nestled in the thick Mayan jungle to beachfront retreats, you’re not short of places to stay in Tulum

And when it comes to activities, you’ve also got a wonderful selection. Everything from swimming with sharks to exploring the nearby bioreserve is possible.

The Best Hotels & Resorts for a Tulum Honeymoon

Azulik Tulum

Azulik Hotel

If you’re looking to splurge on a fairytale trip (and you definitely should), the Moon Villa is the perfect honeymoon suite at Azulik Tulum.

Taking center stage is the fluffy king-size bed adorned with a mosquito net and a nearby hanging bed.

This Villa is totally off the grid, with no electricity or outside disturbance it feels as if you are completely secluded – aided by the large private deck and floor-to-ceiling windows with jungle views.

The room has a jaw-dropping private bath inside, as well as another on the balcony for good luck. When it comes to privacy, nowhere beats Azulik. We think it might just be the best place to honeymoon in Tulum.

Hotel Bardo

Hotel Bardo

In our opinion, Hotel Bardo is among the best honeymoon hotels Tulum has to offer.

First off, it’s adults-only – so there’s no need to worry about screaming little ones ruining the peace, nor do you need to worry about the outside world encroaching on your romantic escape.

Each room is decorated in complete boho glamour, equipped with a private pool and abundant patio space on which you can while away the hours.

Though, the hotel is located in the center of Tulum so you’re within walking distance to some of the best restaurants and bars the city has to offer.

La Valise Tulum

La Valise

When it comes to Tulum honeymoon hotels, nowhere dazzles quite like La Valise Tulum. Each room leaves you totally ensconced in a tropical paradise, surrounded by hand-crafted furnishings and open-plan living.

On one side of the hotel, there’s an infinity pool perched right on the fringes of the jungle, and on the other, panoramic views of the sparkling Caribbean Ocean.

Did we mention that they literally have beds on the beach, so you can relax under the stars in total comfort?

Gramercy Tulum

Gramercy

Looking for boho-chic decor and a beachfront location? Look no further than Gramercy Tulum.

Step into the impressive lobby of the five-star hotel and it immediately sets the precedent for your dreamy honeymoon – by the time you open the door to your room, you’ll be completely smitten.

For the ultimate experience, opt for the King Suite with Sea View, which comes with a dreamy balcony overlooking the beach and is the perfect spot for spending a lazy morning or with a late-night drink.

The onsite Agave is a wonderful restaurant – and the breakfast in bed option is an excellent touch, too.

Be Tulum Beach & Spa Resort

Be Tulum Resort

It’s no secret that Be Tulum Beach & Spa is among the best honeymoon resorts in Tulum.

The Aire Suite is the most impressive of the offerings here, featuring a private patio and pool right outside your spacious, open-plan apartment.

Inside, the rooms are stylish and modern with touching nods to the local area through furnishings and decoration.

Situated on the edge of the jungle, overlooking the sea, you’ll be able to make full use of the spa facilities on offer here. A massage on the beach sounds pretty dreamy to us.

La Zebra a Colibri Boutique Hotel

La Zebra a Colibri

If we could use one word to describe La Zebra a Colibri Hotel, it would be indulgent.

The Garden View Balcony Suite boasts a huge bed, sofa, and a large balcony overlooking the lush garden below. It’s got everything you could possibly need for a romantic getaway, all rolled into one stunning room.

The hotel is less private than some of the others we’ve included – nightly music also ensures it’s a little bit more poppin’ – but it’s a gorgeous spot in an ideal location right next to the beach with a little bit more personality than the other hotels.

Cool Activities for Your Tulum Honeymoon Itinerary

Visit the Sian Ka’an Biosphere

Sian Kaan Tulum

At the top of your Tulum honeymoon itinerary needs to be a trip to the Sian Ka’an Biosphere – after all, it translates to “a place where heaven begins”.

An expanse of natural beauty, It was granted UNESCO World Heritage status in 1987 and is filled with lagoons, ancient temples, and ruins to explore.

Embark on a tour like this one and you’ll be shown the most breathtaking parts of the biosphere, as well as being given the opportunity to zipline over the jungle.

Dotted with tiny towns and communities, you’ll be able to find plenty of spots to grab a bite to eat in Sian Ka’an or swing by one of the many quaint bars for a spot of tequila tasting.

Indulge in a Fancy Restaurant

No Tulum honeymoon is complete without spending an evening at one of the area’s fine dining spots.

Whether you would prefer to dine in the Tulum Pueblo (town center) or the Zona Hotelera (the hotel zone/Tulum beach), you’re not short of gorgeous spots serving a wide range of cuisine.

Though, if you’re after a romantic meal, we recommend sticking to the hotel zone; this is where the vast majority of upscale restaurants can be found.

Our favorite spots include Wild Tulum – a dreamy retreat in the jungle that explores Tulum’s Mayan heritage through its dishes – as well as Rosa Negra and its eclectic menu with nods to South America, and the Italian delights on offer at Posada Margherita.

Take a Dip in a Cenote

Cenote Angelita

We’ve written a complete guide to Tulum’s cenote’s here, but this is one of the most romantic activities in Tulum (if you pick your pool wisely).

These caverns offer the perfect escape, as well as a spot to cool off and appreciate Tulum’s beautiful natural landmarks.

But with so many cenotes scattered around the area, it can be overwhelming trying to figure out which one to visit. In terms of beauty, it’s difficult to beat the likes of Cenote Eden and Cenote Angelita – both offer an idyllic retreat away from the hustle and bustle of Tulum.

The cenote at Tulum Ruins is equally as beautiful, though it gets very crowded – not exactly the ideal honeymoon situation.

Swim with Whale Sharks

Fancy something a little bit different? How about getting up close and personal with these gentle giants – this tour allows you to do just that.

You’ll be treated to complimentary food and drinks upon boarding the boat, before being taken to the snorkel site and spending a couple of hours in the glittering Caribbean Sea.

You’ll then be taken to Isla Mujeres to finish off your once-in-a-lifetime adventure with a delicious lunch.

Relax at a Beach Club

After all, how could you possibly visit Tulum and not spend time on the warm, white sand?

We’ve got a complete guide to the best beach clubs in Tulum here – though if you’re still stuck, we highly recommend Coco Tulum during the day (things get a little rowdy by night), the completely-luxurious Ahau Tulum, and the famous Nomade – it’s famous for a reason. The reason being that it’s absolutely gorgeous.

Practical Tips for Planning a Tulum Honeymoon

Tulum Honeymoon
  • First of all, set a budget and stick to it. It’s far too easy to get carried away and before you know it, you’ve spent above and beyond what you can afford. Nobody wants to start married life off with financial friction.
  • Decide on what is most important for your honeymoon. Do you want a totally private hotel? Or would you prefer to immerse yourself in the local culture? From there you can begin to plan out your ideal honeymoon.
