Nestled around 3km inside the gorgeous Sian Ka’an Biosphere Reserve, Ka’an Restaurant is one of the best places to dine in Tulum – actually, we’d wager a bet that it’s one of the top restaurants in the entirety of Quintana Roo.
It’s no secret that Tulum has plenty of brilliant restaurants, and while you won’t go too far wrong no matter where you dine, there’s only one place to have a really special meal. Cue Ka’an.
The Food
Ka’an Restaurant sticks true to its natural surroundings with a carefully curated menu inspired by the ancient Mayan people.
To achieve this, the chefs work closely with local fishers and farmers to bring only the freshest of ingredients to the table. This ethos also extends to the traditional cooking methods used to prepare food, from the authentic clay pots used to create stews to the wicker baskets which store the fruits and vegetables for each dish.
What’s on the menu, we hear you ask? There’s an eclectic mix of fusion cuisine, spanning grilled seafood and meats to hearty stews and elevated takes on Mexican favourites.
We’re particularly obsessed with the lobster tacos, though on previous visits we have also enjoyed their spicy Yucatan-style tamales. Delicious. Oh, and the charred corn really is a thing of beauty.
Drinks-wise, a small but perfectly-formed selection of beers, wines, cocktails, and soft drinks make up the menu. Go on, treat yourself to a Margarita or three.
The Look
In true Tulum fashion, the outdoor restaurant sits facing the sparkling ocean. Tranquility is 100% guaranteed at this spot.
In fact, with the Caribbean Sea on one side and a pretty lagoon on the other, we think you’ll be hard pressed to find a location more beautiful than this.
